History’s Most Daring Escapes

We’re looking at history’s most daring escapes today and we think you’ll agree with us that these are quite the most impressive escapes that have ever been made. We’re also hoping it’ll inspire you to come on down and try the Escape Games phenomena yourselves here in Sheffield. Read on and see how teamwork and determination got these people out of a locked room.

Alcatraz

This is or was, seen - as it is no longer in use, - considered impenetrable and that no one could escape. Unfortunately, though they could. This is highly impressive seen as they were on an island in the Pacific. It was well guarded and built to keep people in. However, someone did escape in 1962 and they were never found, some believe he drowned, which could possibly be someone making an excuse because he escaped in the first place.  Of course, it was all planned, where they all met in a closet (Yes, I know) and built paddles and a raft. To top it all off they climbed some pipes, up and over the 30ft high walls. That’s teamwork for you, and as you can imagine, it’s this kind of teamwork that will get you out of our Escape Rooms.

Harry Houdini

Was famous for escaping from the most impossible situations, most of his own creation because he was an escape artist. The Water Torture Cell was the most famous of his creations where he would lock himself inside a water tank and then escape within seconds and avoid drowning. There was always an axe to break the glass should he find that he was unable to escape, but luckily, and cleverly for Houdini he never needed to use it. The unique situation you’ll be in with our Escape Rooms should help you to feel pretty innovative in thinking about how you’ll get out – especially as you’ll be working against the clock.

The Great Escape

Prisoners of war were constantly trying to escape Colditz, the world famous prisoner of war camp. Talking of plans, they had the plan to end all plans, with a 300ft long and 30ft deep tunnel – digging carefully so as to muffle sounds and carefully concealing any sand they dug up. They worked together and again we’re looking at that wonderful teamwork you’ll need when you come into our Escape Rooms. Work together, recognise your surroundings and familiarise yourself with the layout and then go to work. Working together as a team you’ll have a better chance of getting out within the hour.

The Benefits Of Brain Teasers And Puzzles

Brain teasers and puzzles are great for those who want to keep their minds active, and it’s a far better alternative to sitting on the sofa every night staring at the TV. However, brain teasers and puzzles are no longer associated with being a prevention for dementia or Alzheimer’s. However, don’t dismiss them right away. As we said earlier, they’re certainly good for keeping your mind active, and rather than sit and do nothing but stare at your phone or iPad, it’s far better to be playing a board game or a physically active game that takes you out of the house, meeting up with old friends.

We’re a nation that’s becoming too isolated and a lot of this is down to spending too much time on our phones and iPads, and not enough time socialising with friends and family. Brain teasers and puzzles are one way to avoid feelings of isolation. Even simple board games or other types of puzzles can be part of something bigger, like a club or small group, where like-minded individuals can join in and interact, making new friends and feeling like part of a collective, making connections and spending valuable time getting to know new people.

This is how it should be, and we’re all about bringing back the interactions and connections that playing games can bring. This is why we believe Escape Games is so successful, because it really does attract people from all walks of life. It doesn’t matter where you come from, how old you are,or where you work, you can do what you like, be what you want to be in your own time. With us you can reinvent yourself as many times as you like. In our Escape Rooms the world is your oyster. We have themed rooms, and the ideas for them are taken from a variety of different films, music and games from popular culture, that way you can get lost in your imagination.

Our Escape Games will get those endorphins going, and give you with the motivation to get up and out of the house on a more regular basis. It’ll really help you to feel more positive and upbeat about yourself and life in general.

The games will also help you develop new skills and help work on pre-existing ones, such as communication, analytical and logical, problem-solving and delegation skills that will come in handy if you’re looking for a promotion or a new job. Escape - Answering Your Questions

Today we’re going to be coming up with some interesting FAQs from the public. Because we know there are a lot of questions out there, we thought we’d narrow them down to just a few, so you have all the information you need to hand. These are the most popular ones, so hopefully you’ll find your most pressing questions, with answers below.

Could you explain what the Escape Games are?

Escape Sheffield consist of several rooms all themed differently where groups of people try to find some carefully hidden clues and puzzles and then try to solve them. Once they’ve done that, they can get out of the room within the hour. Yes, there’s just one hour to escape. People come to Escape to help celebrate important events, like hen and stag dos, birthdays and anniversaries.

Do you have a certain age to take part in the Escape Games?

You don’t have to be over 18 that’s for sure, but if you’re under the age of 10 may find it a little taxing and better for older children. If you do bring a child with you, then we usually advise that you make sure they’re supervised by an adult at all times.

I’m a bit claustrophobic, is it wise for me to take part?

We can leave the room unlocked if it helps and you can leave when you like if you need to, and if you want, we can also leave the doors open. If you don’t want to stay, or you find it’s too difficult to stay in there, then you can always walk out of the room whenever you want, just let us know your needs when you arrive.

How many people do you need to play?

We normally suggest between two and up to six people, that way you’re not tripping and falling over each other while you’re in the room.

How much time do you need to set aside once you arrive?

We suggest you arrive half an hour early so we can brief you on what to expect and health and safety stuff, and then of course, you’ll have your hour in the room. Then just allocate enough time to get here and you have your time all sorted!

Escape Sheffield – for the best downtime in town

If you feel you are ready for the Escape Games challenge why not come on down and try it out for yourself? You can book online or over the phone, and we can’t wait to see you here, bring your friends, family, even your work colleagues, you’re bound to have the time of your life.

How to Be Successful in an Escape Room

If you’ve booked an escape room with us here at Escape Sheffield, you’ll be wanting to know what it takes to be successful. After all you only have one hour in which to escape so that’s not much time. We’re going to give you a few hints and tips, so you have a fighting chance of beating the clock, so read on for how to be successful.

Variety of skillsets

The first thing we’d advise is that you have a team with a wide variety of skills to bring to the room. You’ll need to solve a series of clues which are hidden all over the room, so problem-solving, analytical and communication skills are all essential, as well as the ability to get on with everyone and who can come together as a team rather than someone who acts as if they are playing alone.

Search everywhere

You’ll need to have eyes everywhere and be willing to search high and low and in each corner. When you find them (the clues), make sure you place them in one central place where you can work your way through each one once you’ve collected all of them. Don’t leave them randomly all over the room or you could lose one, and by losing one you could lose the entire game.

Move on if you’re stuck

Don’t stay stuck on one particular clue, move on if you have to. If you do get stuck, then move on and check out the next one. You could be wasting precious time if you focus on one clue, you can always come back to it later.

Don’t allow big egos to take over

If someone is trying to dominate the game, then perhaps you shouldn’t have invited them along. This is a team game, and everyone has an opportunity to play, so rather than allow one person to dominate, either don’t invite them or ask them to let others have a chance too, so you all get to play the game and enjoy the experience.

Escape Sheffield – Premier Escape Rooms

If you now think you can win the game, why not book an escape room and come down? We’d love to see you, and we think that even if you don’t win, you’ll still enjoy yourself, it’s great fun and we can’t wait to see all of you and your friends here, so book today.

Top Tips For Escape Rooms

If you’re looking at visiting one of our escape rooms soon you may be wondering about the right way of getting out and winning the game. If this is the case, look no further because today, we’re going to be passing on some hints and tips which should help you once you’re locked in.

Choose your Team Carefully

Make sure you pick people who are good at maths, problem-solving, know how to stay cool in a crisis and are good at solving puzzles. Whoever you decide on make sure they’re people you like and you know you’re going to get on with. There’s nothing worse than being locked in a room with people who don’t get on with each other, it could be the longest hour of your life.

Team Building Activities

On the other hand, if this is part of a corporate venture where your boss is hoping to improve your performance with some team building activities, then you may not have a choice in who you’re locked in a room with. In which case, work together as best you can, the goal is to get out by solving the clues and puzzles, it’s 60 minutes out of your life and you never know, somewhere down the line it could result in a pay rise or a job promotion, just show your best side.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled

The rooms are themed and whichever room you choose the clues will be cleverly hidden where they won’t obviously be seen. You need to find them and then when you do, don’t lose them, because that’s the only way you’re going to get out. So, all clues and puzzles solved - keep them close to you.

Communication is Key

Communicate with your fellow prisoners while you’re in the locked room, because only by communicating and discussing what you think the clues mean will you get out. Your efforts to escape really will go to waste if you don’t talk to each other, show what you’ve found, discuss the clues, and also make sure you listen to what everyone else has to say, don’t dominate conversations, there’s more than one voice to be heard.

Use Your Time Wisely

There’ll be a clock and you’ll be counted down, but don’t become obsessed with the time as it goes by, just try and spend an equal amount of time on each clue and if you get stuck, move on.

Enjoy Yourself!

Perhaps you won't get out in time, but don’t be too hard on yourself, at the end of the day you did your best. There’s nothing worse than someone coming to you at the end and saying that you were so close and you only had a few more minutes, and you would have cracked it. Doesn’t make you feel better does it? But no sweat, because at the end of the day it’s not the end of the world. You’ve had a good time and that’s all that matters, so don’t take it too seriously.
